At the 10th Annual Ministerial Meeting of the International Network
on Cultural Policy (INCP), held in Seville, Spain, September 20-21,
2007, Ministers of Culture unanimously endorsed the following two-year
mandate for the Working Group on Cultural Diversity &Globalization
(WGCD&G):
- Supporting the work undertaken by the UNESCO Intergovernmental
Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of
Cultural Expressions; and
- Exploring the theme of intercultural dialogue with a view to
contributing to the ongoing discourse on this transversal issue
and highlighting its importance as a key element in promoting
social inclusion.
The Working Group on Cultural Diversity and Globalization met on
January 23-25, 2008. This meeting was very timely as it allowed
participants to talk about the outcomes of the First Session of
the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion
of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (ICG) which was held in
Ottawa, Canada, from December 10 to 13, 2007. During the WGCD&G
meeting, a document entitled the
Guidelines and modalities for the International Fund on Cultural
Diversity was discussed and subsequently submitted to the UNESCO
Secretariat on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
The WGCD&G meeting also allowed officials to begin discussing
the transversal theme of Intercultural Dialogue with a view to develop
tangible results and to define expected achievements over the next
two years, as per its mandate.
