Description of Ministerial Meeting

Session One

Session one of this year's meeting will provide Ministers with the opportunity to discuss and exchange views on the prevalent theme of the Economic Role of Cultural Industries in the Context of the Global Crisis. Discussions will revolve around the economic and social contribution of cultural industries, the impact of the current economic crisis and initiatives that could be undertaken to maximise the potential of cultural industries as generators of wealth, employment and social cohesion.

Session Two

The second session will focus on the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. As follow-up to the Second Ordinary Session of the Conference of the Parties to this Convention, held at UNESCO headquarters in June, 2009, Ministers will have an opportunity to share their views with respect to the main challenges and opportunities related to the implementation of the Convention. Ministers will also be invited to exchange views on what they consider to be the most important initiatives to be undertaken over the course of the next two years (2009-2011).

Session Three

Session three will provide Ministers with an opportunity to exchange views on what they consider to be the main priorities of the future activities of the INCP over the course of the coming years, taking into consideration the global economic situation and the activities developed within other international and/or regional fora. Key partners from international organisations and civil society will be invited to participate.  It is expected that during this session, Ministers shall agree on relevant themes of mutual interest, which will guide the activities of INCP.
