Cultural diversity fosters social cohesion and impacts on the sustainable development of communities. Examples of specific objectives and challenges associated with the promotion and protection cultural diversity include linguistic diversity, reducing inequality and discrimination based on gender, international outreach and cooperation, and the need for resources to preserve cultural heritage.

In their research, Senegal offers six key points summarizing the efforts of Member Countries to develop cultural policies that have both a social and economic impact. The key points identified are: protection and promotion of cultural diversity in INCP member Countries; strategies to preserve national cultural heritage – the institutional shield; impacts of cultural policies; constraints and limitations; gender and cultural diversity; and limitations of gender integration policies.

Recommendations for improving the status of women and combating gender discrimination, and for promoting cultural diversity to ensure social cohesion and sustainable development are offered as potential areas of cooperation.
