10:30-12:00 Session 1: Traditional Cultures and Modernization

The protection and development of traditional culture against the backdrop of globalization no longer means the inheritance and continuation in a general sense; it represents the transformation and remolding of traditional culture in the course of modernization. This has become an important part of maintaining the world's cultural diversity during economic globalization.

China has summarized traditional culture and modernization as well as the relationship between them as seen in various countries. It is their hope that the discussion will focus on how to preserve and develop traditional culture amid modernization and how to make the traditional culture of all nationalities a part of modern human life.

Key Issues for Discussions:

  • The specific measures taken to rescue and protect traditional culture during modernization, including the main measures to protect traditional culture; the legislative model for intangible cultural heritage and its implementation; and how to reasonably combine traditional culture with economic development, etc.
  • How will traditional culture be inherited and innovated amid modernization? How can traditional culture accurately reflect our history and still adapt to modern society?
  • How can we build a mechanism for cultural exchange and development between various countries? What measures should the countries take?

  • How can the INCP assist in terms of linkages between a UNESCO Convention and other international organizations such as the WTO, WIPO and UNCTAD?
